Museum Volunteering Fair (15 Nov 2016)
On Tuesday 1th November 2016 representatives from the Ming Ai Institute's British Chinese Armed Forces Heritage Project attended UCL's Museums and Heritage Volunteering Fair. This was a unique opportunity for UCL students interested in pursuing a career in the museums and heritage field to find out a bit more about what working within this rewarding sector entails. It also gave interested students a chance to sign up to be a volunteer for various projects run by a number of organisations and museums.
The fair was very well attended and the British Chinese Armed Forces Heritage Project garnered a lot of interest. Project Officers from Ming Ai were able to talk to many students from a wide variety of academic backgrounds who were keen to gain valuable work experience whilst learning about the contribution of Chinese soldiers in the British military services. The Ming Ai table was very popular and at the end of the evening a large number of students had registered to be part of the project's volunteer database. Since November a number of these have already begun contributing to the project through taking part in tasks such as translation and video editing. These volunteers will also now be able to take advantage of free training sessions run by the Ming Ai Institute and other partners which will give them a head start when beginning their careers after graduation.
Overall, the event at UCL was a huge success and we look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with students at UCL.
