Wah Fong was born in Kowloon City, Hong Kong. His father was also in the Royal Navy. Before he joined the Navy, Wah Fong had worked in the dockyard near the naval base, HMS Tamar. By the introduction of a patrolling officer, in 1950, Wah Fong joined the navy and served for six years, during which he served on the aircraft carrier HMS Belfast, and was responsible for stores provision. Afterwards, he became a Signalman at HMS Tamar, and his work was appreciated by his senior officers. Wah Fong never encountered any serious danger or difficulty while in service. After leaving the service, he worked on a foreign oil tanker and experienced the sinking of a ship. Afterwards, he worked in many hotels until his retirement.
