Paul Lau was born in Hong Kong and attended Primary and secondary school there. He then travelled to Taiwan where he completed his degree in Psychology. After this he continued his postgraduate study in America, completing a Masters there.
Eventually he returned to Hong Kong where he enrolled in the Chinese University of Hong Kong for three years and was ordained deacon in 1980 and priest in 1981. After serving as a priest in the Diocese of Hong Kong and Macau for 13 years he moved with his family to New Zealand in 1994 to be a vicar in the Anglican Chinese church, Diocese of Wellington.
He served the community in New Zealand for a further seven years before moving to London. In 2001 he took up position as Associate Vicar in St Martin in the Fields, Westminster where he serves to this day. The church runs weekly services and activities in Mandarin and Cantonese for Chinese residents and visitors to London.
