Brian Wong was appointed as Justice of the Peace in the City of Liverpool in 1994 and became Deputy Lieutenant in the County of Merseyside in 2002. He has served as Board Member of the Ethnic Minority Business Forum for the Department of Trade and Industry (2004-2007) and as Vice Chairman of the North West Ethnic Minority Business Forum (2006-2007). He also served as Member of the BBC's Advisory Council for the North West (1998-2003).
In 1990 he founded the Liverpool Chinatown Business Association and then went on to found the North West Chinese Council in 1996. He continues to play an active role as Hon. Advisor. Brian is fluent in Chinese and English and he has been appointed as an official interpreter by the Home Office since 2003. In 1990 he gained his MA in Economics from the University of Manchester. He worked as an Economics lecturer in local colleges from 1986-1989.
At present Brian Wong is the Managing Director of Foho Finance Investment Co Ltd and (former) Finance Director of the Hondo Trading Co Ltd. He became Trustee Board Member of the National Museum of Liverpool from 2004 and was then reappointed for a second term until 2012. He was appointed as Standard Chartered Bank (Private Banking) UK Representative since 2009.
Over the years he has acted as consultant and adviser to many cities in China and many local Chinese companies and organisations, as well as housing associations, youth organisations and community bodies in the UK. He is a prominent businessman in the North West and a leading member of the Chinese Community.
