Mr Yip arrived in the UK in 1959, and together with his brother, Mr Sammy Yap, opened the first Wing Yip store in Digbeth, Birmingham in 1970. They were joined by their brother Mr Lee Sing Yap, and over the past 40 years, Wing Yip has grown into a leading Chinese family business with two generations of the family involved in the running of the same and four superstores based in Birmingham, Cricklewood, Croydon and Manchester. These include Business Centres where a range of Chinese businesses from restaurants to solicitors and banks providing services to the Oriental community.
The Yip brothers set up the Wing Yip Foundation as a way of contributing back to the community, and over the years have set up the Wing Yip Scholarships at Churchill College, University of Cambridge, given over 330 bursaries to Chinese students studying in the UK, supported the Prince's Trust as well as numerous good causes both local and national within and outside the Oriental community.
Mr Henry Yap, the son of Mr Sammy Yap, is the Managing Director of Wing Yip, and is currently involved in the Group's plans to open new stores in Nottingham and Cardiff.
