James Ho was born in Hong Kong. In 1967, at the age of seven, he came to the UK with his family to join his father. Initially James lived in London where he continued his education whilst his father was running the family bakery in Manchester.
James' father was trained as a dim sum chef. Based on that experience, James' father started the business, Ho's Bakery, in 1980. James learnt to bake from working with his father in Manchester after his studies. James has a great passion and dedication to the bakery, qualities he also learnt from his father.
In 1985 James opened and successfully ran his own chip shop. However, his father retired in late 1990 leaving James and his brother with Ho's Bakery. The business was then relocated from its initial location as a small corner shop to a larger unit on Princess Street where James still runs the bakery with his wife today.
