Voluntary Opportunities:

BCAFH is looking for volunteers! Starting with a series of training sessions on oral histories and related topics in Autumn 2016, the training workshops will be delivered by professional trainers from the National Army Museum, the British Library, Regent's University London and the Ming-Ai (London) Institute.

Available Roles

Depending on your interests, a volunteers' duties could include:

Photography, Audio/Video Editing, Interviewing, Events Organisation, Website Management, Translation (Chinese/English), Research, Transcribing and more!

Volunteers do NOT need to be able to speak Chinese but should have a strong interest in Chinese culture and heritage.

Training Opportunities

Volunteers will gain training and experience in the following:

Working in the cultural heritage sector and non-for-profit organisation.

Assisting with events and community workshops.

Working with database and archiving.

Designing and delivering workshop courses for ethnic minorities communities and local schools.

Oral History interviews, research methods, handling practices, media production, and a variety of related topics. Training Certificate would be issued after completing the training sessions.

Learning about the contributions to the British Armed Forces made by people of Chinese (PRC), Taiwanese, Hong Kong or Macau decent, their families, their descendants and their comrades.

Learning about Chinese language, cultural heritage and creating a meaningful dialogue between the UK and Greater China.

You should also be willing to attend training sessions. Travel reimbursement within Greater London is included if necessary.

BCAFH logo red jpegFunded by Heritage Lottery Fund, British Chinese Armed Forces is a 4-year partnership project (2015-2018) collaborated with Ming-Ai (London) Institute and Regent's University London. The primary aim of the project is to create a historical archive which would be the basis for the generation of a series of related community initiatives. 

Personal reflections, family records and memorabilia of those who served in the British Chinese Armed Forces during the 19th and 20th centuries.

40 extended oral history interviews with past members of the British Chinese Armed Forces, their families, their descendants and their comrades.

A research publication, two international conferences and two exhibitions.

Engage community groups with a variety of community workshops; volunteering opportunities for communities members and others interested in the subject; practical training opportunities in the skills of heritage work through an internship scheme.
